Here’s a look back at last weeks National CX champs. As everyone will know by now the winners of the Elite Women & Mens races were Águsta Björnsdóttir & Ingvar Ómarsson, who later that evening were also awarded the respective women & mens Icelandic Cyclist of the Year. That is only half the story though, as it has been a long time since I have seen such hotly contested racing. Águsta did battle with María Ögn for the entirety of the race, with the lead swapping several times. In the mens race it was the same story, with Ingvar & Hafsteinn within bike lengths of each other for the duration. No race, especially in the world of CX is ever a foregone conclusion, and it was great to see these athletes at work. Many thanks to all those involved in making the race happen, and all those who raced.
